Race Report In-Brief

This weekend marked the official kickoff of the Kansas City Metro cx season with three KCBC Racing members racing Buffalo Bill’s CX in Fort Leavenworth. Andy Ash, on of our newest members to the team, got things going racing in the Cat 4 men’s field, looking fast donning his new KCBC Racing Team kit and a blazing orange Lazer Helium lid. Andy placed 9th on a tough course with lots of leg searing climbing and sweeping descents, the latter in which Andy was clearly seen grinning as he chased down another racer.
In the men’s Cat 1,2, 3 field, Dan Schaeffer and Kyle Guinn lined up for 50 minutes of racing in mid 70 degree temps. Kyle continues to be fast, throwing down a 13th place overall in a field representing some very fast guys. The power course with long sustained climbs played into Kyle’s wheelhouse. Dan Schaeffer was running 15th when his rear Challange Grifo blew on a tight high speed corner. On a difficult course it seemed that his day may have been over as he descended a long off-camber downhill trying to keep from washing out, when suddenly, he could be be spotted running with his bike like a star on the horizon up the long ascent towards the start/finish line with one to go. Dan descended again and ran back up to the pits where Mark Thomas assisted in a quick wheel change and he finished the race, losing a couple of places.

Overall, the day was a success for all racers and great to get things started. Kyle is riding fast right now. Keep your eye on him in subsequent races.
