Perry Road Race #3
Author Last Post
The final installment of the Perry Road Race Series featured weather fit for a CX race. It was only slightly warmer than the week before, and a light rain started not even 10 minutes before the start of the Cat. 4 race. Brakes were squealing. Extremities were freezing. There are rumors that this race is cursed.

In the Cat. 4 race there were only a few who jumped to the front to pull the group along. But with the weather as it was, and the race going the full 7 laps, the rest of the peloton was content to let them suffer alone in the front. We settled on a moderate pace that felt more like a group ride than last week's hammerfest. The KOM on lap 3 was the first real excitement. Usually this is where the group splits apart, but this time was different as the leaders slowed and let most of the group rejoin afterwards, possibly due to the headwind across the dam. Back to the group ride pace. After six laps at this pace we were being lulled to sleep. Finally an attack halfway through the final lap signaled the wake-up call, and the chase was on. Two riders held a lead until the turn up the hill where they were caught. Then the front five or six just formed a wall across the road, with nobody wanting to make the early move, until they all accelerated away at once where the road pitches up for the last time.
