Summer Breeze Century

A Cycling KC classic you've (maybe) been riding for decades!

We'll have some new roads to ride. And we'll have routes from 27 to 100 miles, great rest stops and an awesome lunch and beverages (including some of the adult variety)

WEATHER POLICY

In general, rain prior to the start time does not affect the event unless there has been significant wind damage and the route has been blocked by fallen trees and/or power lines. If a significant storm occurs the night prior to the ride, volunteers will need to be sent out to review the route. The ride leaders will review any blockages and propose detours and or ride cancellation if conditions warrant.

Start of event

There is rain in the forecast during the event. The ride support does not include the ability to SAG in all riders in case of severe weather. You should watch for severe thunderstorms and take shelter as appropriate. If lightening is present, seek shelter until the weather clears. If there is a delay in the event due to the weather, we may close the longer routes.

If it is raining at the start of the ride:
• If there is rain, the ride goes on. If there is lightning, depending on how much we see and the forecast (passing storm or one that stays), the ride is either delayed or cancelled.

• Light to moderate rain-we ride as planned. We will have every one of our tents up and available for coverage. All Rest Stops are deployed.

• Moderate to heavy rain expected during most of the day, we will shorten the route and notify affected personnel.

• Moderate to heavy rain after the start. Hold cyclists at the nearest Rest Stop or safe haven until it clears, and then let them back on the road, extending the route closing time if necessary. Close longer routes if possible and time permits.

• Heavy morning rain we will hold the start of the ride for up to 1 hour in the hopes that it will slow down enough to ride. Again, we have the possibility of a shortened route.

• Heavy rain with no good signs of clearing and/or with lightning and thunder. Cancel event. Recall any deployed Rest Stop personnel and gear. Ride leader makes the following announcement:  Inclement weather, including lightening, is in the vicinity of today's event and is expected to continue for several hours. For the safety of our riders and volunteers, the event has been canceled. You should seek immediate shelter.
