Nall Park

Ok, I'm running a bit late. Should be there about 9:15.
It rained last night and it is wet. I'm going to ride over and check it out. I want see what areas have any standing water after a hard rain. Doesn't look like it will rain here for awhile.

I went bought some marking flags and ribbon yesterday.

Come on out if you can make it.
It rained pretty good down here ln Olathe was there much up North? Are we still doing this or is it to muddy.
No I do not. However Lowes is real close by. I looked online and it looks like they have 100 orange marking flags for about $8. I'll see if I can get some time to run by there today and pick some up.

Mark, what all do we have for course marking supplies? I know we had some cones and marking flags at one time? Are those club supplies or someone's personal supplies?

It looks like it's going to be raining tomorrow. I guess we will just wait and see what it is like tomorrow morning. If looks severe then we will call it off.

Tyler do you have any ribbons or flags for marking the trail out?
If anyone else can make it on Monday - Labor Day, Pat and I are meeting up at 9am to do little recon of Nall Park. If anyone else is available at that time then please stop by and join us. Bring your CX or Mt bike if you've got one, so we can test out some areas for riding.

I went over to the park last night and it looked like it had been mowed. Also looked like a lot of the fallen tree limbs had been picked up too. So a little progress.
David, we all talked last night. It sounds like we will kick off the season with our first official CX practice at Leawood Park next Tuesday (9/2). I think we all pretty much feel that it seems fitting to transition from doing the Tuesday Mission Farms Ride to doing CX practice at either Leawood, Ward Parkway, or now Nall. Maybe we can mix it up week to week, or have dedicated days of the week for each area. I'm up for whatever. I think each location will offer different options for practicing.
Are you proposing Sept 2 or 3? I recall some discussion about Tuesday vs. Wednesday. Thought we might. be leaning in favor of Tuesday since Mark works on Wednesday.
I'm open to anything....Bunny hopping chickens sounds fun!
I would like to encourage you all to come up to my neck of woods for some CX practice this year. There is a park by my house called Nall Park - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nall+Park/@39.0417842,-94.6481058,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x190cb7f574d9e278?hl=en. It's located at the end of Nall where it dead ends. It's got some pretty hilly, off camber terrain.

The park is kind of being neglected by Roeland Park right now. I actually attended a city meeting with the Roeland Park mayor and the council members in my ward about improving the park last night. (The park resides in my ward - Ward 1 of Roeland Park.) The meeting started off explaining how the Turkey Creek Streamway Corridor wants an extension built off the new bike path development that is being built in Mission and KCK to connect the current trail in Merriam. The extension will take you into Nall Park. So it ended up being a nice segue for me to propose the idea of making Nall Park a dedicated cyclocross park with the idea of also incorporating the building of some short single track trails. The mayor and the council member (my neighbor) heading the meeting seemed pretty intrigued by the idea. Now, no one had any clue what cyclocross even was, so I did my best to some sum it up the best I could without going into a lot of detail. I sent them an email this morning with some links to info about cyclocross and a video showing what it is.

Roeland Park is a funky, hip city of Johnson county so of any city in JoCo to buy into having a CX park might be Roeland Park. We've got Art in R Park, we can raise chickens in our backyards, and we've got the Dome...why not a CX Park!

Now I'll be honest...there is a waste water treatment plant right across the street from the park and sometimes if the wind is out of West you can smell the sewage wafting over from Mission. We've had to complain to JoCo Waste Water, so it's not as bad as it used to be.

It would be nice to have you guys come out and help plot out a CX course in the park. We could conduct some scrimmage races. I talked one on one with the Director of Public Works and Parks after the meeting to see if it would be ok to mark out a course with flags and cones, and he said he had no issues with that.

Let me know if you are interested or have input/ideas/advice. I know we all like Leawood Park and Ward Parkway, but it might be nice to mix it up a little this year...especially if the wind is not blowing out of the West.
